Yelena Strokin is especially fond of still-life photography. She takes her inspiration from old Dutch and Flemish masters and uses her camera to turn simple vegetables like potatoes and carrots into art objects.

Although born in Russia, the artist now lives in the USA where she began her career as a photo journalist. Soon she discovered her passion for food photography and began working as a food stylist and photographer. Composition is of the utmost importance in her work and even in her sleep she finds herself changing backgrounds and arranging china and silverware.

She lives with her family in a country home near Philadelphia where she spends her free time cooking and baking bread. The fragrance of freshly baked bread and delicious food constantly fills her kitchen.

Her mission is to make the world a better place through her photos and recipes. She hopes they will inspire positive feelings and awake childhood memories in the viewer. Her blog, www.melangery.com, demonstrates that sometimes the simplest recipes, like sweet potato chips with thyme, produce the best photos.
